Baobab tree of Morondava, Madagascar

There are 8 sorts of Baobabs in the world among which 7 are in Madagascar.

This one is in Morondava.

It is Adansonia grandidieri. It is a thousand years old and measures more than 30 m in height!

But all the endemic Baobabs of Madagascar are in danger, because of bushfires, and irrigation of the sugar cane and zebus, which eat the young plants. In fact there is little regeneration.

Along this magnificent path of baobabs, trees are surrounded by the water of the sugar cane and the ricefields.

Roots rot and trees fall.
